There are currently numerous regions with self-determination movements across Africa.
For instance, Somaliland is a self-governing region within Somalia, complete with its own president and army. It was established by the Somali National Movement in 1988. Despite this, Somalia does not recognize Somaliland as an independent state.
Similarly, Biafra consists of several eastern states in Nigeria that seek to secede, driven by groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Biafra Zionist Movement.
Other notable regions include Tigray in Ethiopia, led by the TPLF; Darfur in Sudan, led by the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM); and Casamance in Senegal, represented by the MFDC.
